Spokane River – Boulder Beach

Boulder Beach is the Spokane River between Market and Argonne on Upriver Drive.   It’s the only large, paved parking area on the river side of the road, so you can’t miss it. It’s an easy walk down a bunch of paved stairs to the beach. Unfortunately, it is more difficult humping your gear back up. I like to keep my gear on and take one or two rests on the way back up.

The beach is sandy and often crowded with swimmers.  The best dive is to head up stream against the very little current, then drift easily back. There are a few fish here, some nice trout and some giant suckers. There’s also lots of crawfish, but I wouldn’t eat any from hear (but they are fun to play with and bring back to the kids).

The beach is named Boulder Beach for good reason. There are lots of fun boulders to swim around, and even one small cavern.  This is shallow water, with one place we call the 35 Foot Hole, ‘cause if you put your depth on the bottom, and the river’s up, it will read 35’. The rest of the dive is closer to 15’-20’.

You can find stuff here. I have found a mask, snorkel, $150 Oakley sun glasses, and once there were one dollar bills floating around. I also once found a metal box filled with stuff the FBI took away from me! See:  http://www.scubaboard.com/t41290.html

This is an easy dive, close to home and a nice night dive.
